For most kids, the weekend is a cherished chance to play outside, socialize with friends and family, and take a break from the weekly routine. For almost 44,000 children in Montgomery County, MD, however, the weekend isn’t so glamorous. It’s the only two days out of the week that they do not get their basic nutritional needs met because they aren’t in school to receive their free and reduced meals.

You don’t have to look very far to find the effects of childhood hunger. Countless research studies have found that children who are hungry

  • Lose brainpower
  • Have stunted growth
  • Suffer weight loss, fatigue, and headaches
  • Are sick or hospitalized more frequently
  • Can become mentally impaired

Kids In Need Distributors (KIND) was founded to meet the needs of Montgomery County’s students 7 days a week by sending them home with pre-packaged, nutritional snacks. With the help of KIND and its volunteers, hundreds of children are now able to enjoy their weekends without stress, discomfort, or anxiety.
